Saturday: A friend of mine had told me that there were still excellent skiing conditions in Norddalen above Syvden (Vanylven) and today I decided to ski to Tuva on Sandfjellegga. For unknown reasons, I always refer to this top as Sandfjelltuva.
On the Årvika – Koparneset ferry, I was looking towards the mountains. Then I noticed snow on the road up Årskogdalen. That meant that I could ski from the car – at a lower elevation than Norddalen had to offer. And I really wanted to ski Trollkoppehornet more than Sandfjelltuva. And so I changed my mind and drove to Rovde instead of Norddalen.

I could have parked the car where the snow began, but then I would have been blocking the road for someone who had less worries about driving on a snowy mountain road than I had. So I parked the car a little further down and carried the skis for 5 minutes before I could put them down on snow.
There wasn’t a lot of snow in the beginning. It was like when you’re looking back, you see gravel.
My first goal was to get to lake Myrkevatnet. Better to take the summer path route instead of going directly up the bowl.
The summer route didn’t offer heaps of snow, but enough to ski all the way up.
Then it was all winter wonderland…
We left Riddarbu and crossed Storhornet’s south ridge as far south as we could, without losing elevation.
Then Trollkoppehornet came into view.
After a while, we were heading up towards Trollkoppehornet.
Karma isn’t a super-fan of the “big white”, but then she found a track that she really cared about…
I wouldn’t be pushing the luck, with respect to Karma. As much as I wanted to continue to Sandegga, I decided we wouldn’t.
Trollkoppehornet was quite good enough as a destination!
Sandegga wouldn’t offer better views anyway…
For the first time, I was skiing on Anne’s mountain skis. We had traded skis for a little while. I have this terrible pair which is hopeless in a track and hopeless off the track, but if you’re going to do both – they’re perfect. At least with these skis, I was able to make turns.
We didn’t go to Sandegga, but I could see that Karma was eager enough to get her up to Storhornet. We had to cross the ridge on our way back anyway, so…
Looking at Skoratinden (aka Rovdehornet), I could see that it was almost possible to ski the steep flank down to Årskogkoppen. Maybe I should come back the next day – without Karma? Nah, it wouldn’t be fun knowing the dog was back home, just counting the minutes until daddy came home. We would probably end up in Norddalen, which was the plan for today…
The descent into Årskogkoppen was – careful! It was hard to turn with these skis as it was and when there isn’t a lot of snow either – it gets challenging. But I got down without breaking bones or skis…
It was just a fabulous day altogether!
The drive back home also offered nice views…
Once back home, I picked up the brush cutter and went for another session on the Dyrkyrkja trail…
