Thursday: This afternoon, I wanted to revisit Middagshornet (also known as Nonshornet) above Skinnviksætra. I’ve only been up here once before, back in 2010 and so this would be a new top for Karma.
We were alone on the mountain. I spoke to a couple who had spent the night in a tent by Skinnviksætra, but they had not been in the mountains.
After a while along the path up the valley, I was looking for a place to cross the river, without taking my shoes off. I didn’t find any.
So, we had to hike all the way up to the valley and cross where many smaller creeks forms the river.
Finally, we could set course towards our goal for the day.
I decided to go for the west ridge.
The terrain wasn’t difficult. It was just a matter of finding a good route.
If you want good views without hiking a tall mountain, this is definitely a candidate!
After a while, we were on the mountain. I could see two tops ahead of me. I didn’t remember which was the highest, so we would have to visit both.
On our way across, we could enjoy the mighty view towards Sunndalsnipa and Eidskyrkja.
The first top had a cairn, so I guessed that this was the high point (although I thought the other top looked higher). When I got back home, I found that this top measures 878,4m.
We moved over to the second top and later I found that this top measures 879,3m. The general map height for this mountain is 880m.
My hope is that Karma will reach 1000 (different) mountains with a prominence > 100m before she says she wants to retire from this activity.
It was time to get off the mountain and hope that we found a good route without too much trouble. We descended to the south, aiming at lake 733m.
We were VERY lucky with the route choice!
Karma had deserved quality time in the river. It was a very hot day and she was thirsty throughout the hike.
I enjoyed the visit and hope it doesn’t take 14 years before I return…
