Thursday: The lunchbreak took place in Ulsteinvik. I had errands and Karma got a walk on the Osnessanden beach.
I’ve said it all winter – the winter comes in March. And now the winter is creeping back. The snow is once again covering the top of the highest mountains on Hareidlandet and Gurskøy islands. Right now, the snow line is between 450 and 500m. After work, I decided to do a hike to Hasundhornet, expecting to find a thin layer of snow on top.
We started out from Ulsteinvik – from the parking below Skjoranakken. I like the forest part. There is a big contrast between the green forest and the snowy mountains.
Once out of the forest, it was raining. So far this week, we had been in the very outskirts of the rain, but now it caught up with us.
Fortunately, it stopped raining after 10 minutes.
We had a nice hike up the mountain. It was a little windy, but not anything to complain about.
Karma had been waiting for this walk all day and enjoyed herself.
I didn’t know how much time we had before it started raining again and wanted to reach the top before that happened. From there on, it didn’t matter much. I just don’t like rain when I’m going up a mountain.
But so far, it didn’t seem that the rain was around the corner. When I drove in to Ulsteinvik, there were the most beautiful rain shower dance on the coastline. I’ve never seen showers as beautiful as these, but there were no places to stop the car. I just couldn’t get over that. That would have been an awesome picture.
I shouldn’t really complain. It could have been raining and raining and instead, we had this beautiful light!
I will remember February 2025 for a long time. Primarily because of the nice weather. Secondary, because of the absence of winter…
Eventually, we reached the top and according to the “job contract”, Karma gets paid on the summits…
Then followed the mandatory picture of Dimnøya island…
I toss the treats on the ground, and after they’re “processed”, Karma has a 50m perimeter she checks for those she might had missed…
It was time to head back down, and we followed the new road for a little while before we went off-trail and joined our ascent route near Stien (459m).
I’m sure the ski enthusiasts are rejoicing now. I do enjoy hiking more than skiing, but since I’ve been prepared for winter in March ever since October, I’m sort of mentally ready for the skiing season now.
On our way down, we stopped by Notten.
It was a really nice hike, and the week has been good so far. 595 vertical meters in average so far…
Trip statistics: 8,3km, 560 vertical meters, 2h:02m
