My route across Garnestua and Flåna

Saturday: I woke up to a few centimetres of fresh snow, but I had other plans than hiking for the first part of the day. I had to assemble my new bed. The instruction sheet clearly stated that two persons were required, I figured I could it do it alone. The worst part was the pure logistics, as I had get my two old beds out and I had to store them in a room where were already two other beds.

Some hours later, the bed was assembled and I was exhausted. I allowed myself an hour rest in the new bed. It felt heavenly. I relaxed in a whole different way.

After my rest, I decided to go for a hike. I chose to hike Garnestua via Martinråsa. I like this route. It’s straight up, all the way.

I soon found out that the shape and form wasn’t as it should be. I didn’t recognize myself in this hill. I had to stop numerous times, just to get the pulse under control.

But on the upside, every time I stopped, I also took pictures.

When I got to the steeper terrain, I considered climbing the rest. I tested a move and the rock I held on to, snapped. I held the piece of rock in my hand. That’s not the “handholds” you’re looking for. I decided to proceed on foot.

Fun terrain, but rotten rock!

Finally, I was up on the plateau. I “celebrated” with throwing some of the fresh snow up in the air.

The summit was close by.

I felt a bit better now that the vertical climb was over. I enjoyed myself and took lots of pictures.

Then I went over to Flåna, hoping to get some nice sunset pictures.

But the sun was still quite high, and I didn’t want to hang around too long.

This would clearly be a round-trip hike, and I sat course for Løset.

But halfway down, I decided to go off-trail, to minimize time spent on the boring road, once I got down there.

This could have been new terrain for me, if it hadn’t been for that I went up and down this forest several times back in 2019, helping a friend to find his lost dog. The dog was found, but not by us.

I was a bit worried about the sudden drop in shape and form. The coming days would surely be interesting!

At least – when I got back home, I had a brand new, nice bed to recover in!

When I reached the Løset road, the car was only 750m away.
