Continued from day 5…
Friday: I did not have a good night sleep, but the morning hours revealed that I was not sick, but there was “some issue” regarding the digestive system. After breakfast, I felt better and the long trip (relatively speaking) we had talked about for days, would finally happen.
We checked out of the hotel and were on our way towards Storhaugen just after 9am. We were not completely alone on the tracks, but this was not rush hour…
We decided to go on our cross-country skis with built-in skins. I guess we were just lazy and didn’t want to spend time prepping the skis.
At this hour, the snow was cold and we had a pretty good glide in the first downhills. Life was good!
I had no clear feeling about how easy or strenuous this trip would be, but we would definitely reach the main goal – Storhaugen – bagging the 3rd pf100 top during our Hafjell stay.
Hafjelltoppen became more and more distant…
After 6,1km, we arrived at Lienden and we crossed the Hornsjøvegen road. We had also crossed this road, a bit further to the east, when we skied Sjøsæterfjellet.
After 11,4km, we arrived at Rognhaugen. We could now start focusing on the last leg and reaching the top. There were now more skiers all around. I wonder where they came from?
We kept on going, on pristine tracks.
After 15,1km, we reached Kjerringknappen and we now had Storhaugen in clear view. Only 2 more kilometres to go! As for the many skiers, someone mentioned a “ski bus” which took people somewhere, so they could go skiing as far as they wanted. I didn’t pay too much attention.
I admit that I was a little bit tired when I reached the top, and based on Anne’s pace, I think she “felt it” as well.
After 2h:27m and 17,1km, we stood on top of Storhaugen!
24km to the northwest, we could see Prestkampen near Skeikampen, where we spent the easter break 3 years ago.
After a round of pictures, we started to prepare for the return trip.
We were both motivated to get back to the hotel and move on to Søndre Land, for a different kind of easter than we had on Hafjell.
We found a shorter route back to Pellestova (15,6km) and returned after 1h:56m of skiing. It was basically an endless line of skiers all the way back to the hotel.
With so many people, I could feel “panic” emerging. This was too much for me. I just wanted to get in the car and drive away. But the plan was to take a shower first. The hotel offered us a room with shower facilities – at no extra cost – which we felt was very kind of them. Plus, that we were allowed to leave our car at the hotel parking, after having checked out.
Afterwards, we continued to our friends Eva and Bjørn in Hov. There was not much snow left in the Søndre Land forests and skiing was out of the question. As such, I had already planned a hike for everybody on the very next day. But winter returned during the night…
Trip statistics: 32,8km, 565 vertical meters, 4h:41m
