Our hike across Slettheia and Øyrahornet
Our hike across Slettheia and Øyrahornet

Monday: This afternoon, I would meet up with Anja Lena and Egil to deploy two wooden walkways on the Øyrahornet path. Egil had assembled the two walkways, and we would have to carry them a bit up the forest.

But that wasn’t until 6pm. I decided to do a hike to Slettheia and time it so that I would be back at the dam in Øyraelva river at 6pm.

We followed the overgrown path up along Øyraelva. Maybe I will make this path “presentable” one day. Not sure…

When we reached Slettheia, we were on schedule for the rendezvous. I *should* be able to do good estimates for these hikes that I know so well.

Eventually, we reached the top of Slettheia and could set course for Øyrahornet.

I really enjoy this (relatively) new path that I marked just a couple of years ago…

Then we descended to meet up with the others.

At the dam, I was shocked about the amount of water in the river. It was almost dry.

My oh my

We arrived on the road to Sandvikskaret 1 minute before Anja Lena and Egil arrived. Getting the walkways up was a big haul. Linda (also in the trail committee) came by, on her way to Øyrahornet.

After a little while, both walkways were in place and the wettest spot on the entire Øyrahornet route wasn’t so wet anymore. Good work!

Tuesday: In addition to trail maintenance on the Dyrkyrkja – Huldrehornet path, my task this afternoon was to measure up new walkways on this route.

The route was gradually coming along. It was quite overgrown before I started on this route…

I really looked forward to getting a bridge (walkway) across this spot. When wet, you get wet…

After making some progress, I figured we had earned a reward

Rambjøra (132m) attempt, May 29 2024

Our short hike today
Our short hike today

Wednesday: Rambjøra + attempt. What a ridiculous combination of words. How can a hike to Rambjøra fail? Well, there are two reasons. Lighting and sickness.

For the past couple of days, Karma had diarrhea and was not well. Today was not a good for her. I decided to see if she was up for a hike to our local forest top Rambjøra.

She wasn’t and I decided to turn around. Afterwards, I drove to the Huldrehornet trail by lake Djupvikvatnet and did trail maintenance on the beginning of the trail while Karma was watching me from the car.

Thursday: Karma seemed to be doing better after the diarrhea and I decided to see if she was up for a hike to Hasundhornet (on Hareidlandet island).

The signs were positive. She was in “search mode

It was quite clear that we would make it to the top today and stopped below the top for a panorama view towards Dimnøya and Ulsteinvik.

A nice viewpoint!

As this hike gave all the positive signs I was looking for, we went to the Dyrkyrkja – Huldrehornet trail for some more progress

Friday: This afternoon, I went for a repetition of a route I did for the first time in March 2024.

First, we headed from Leikongeidet and up to Røddalshorn.

The fog was thick…

On our way to Storetua, I got disorientated and at times, I didn’t know where we were. That was not a problem, just fun.

Eventually, we got to the Røddalshorn – Storetua saddle and the terrain was familiar again.

OK, so now we're here...

And after a quick jog across the Storetua summit plateau, we reached the top.

Like in March, we sat course for lake Simavatnet – barely seen to the right in the below picture.

Saturday: I was on my way to Sogndal again and didn’t feel like allocating a whole lot of time for hiking. But the dog had to be walked and so I settled for a roundtrip hike across Nyken and Hamnanova from Dvergsdalsdalen.

I always enjoy this route!

Like always, we followed the path towards Djupeskaret, on our way up the forest.

It was yet another hot day, but clouds helped a bit.

Then it was time for the fabulous view from Nyken towards Kjøsnesfjorden. Even the clouds couldn’t ruin the moment.

Just stunning!

Then we went down to Hamnanova. Lake Jølstravatnet is also nice but is not in Kjøsnesfjorden’s league.

When I got to Sogndal, I immediately started on my chores. The logs we picked up on May 11 needed cutting, chopping and stacking.
