The summer vacation in Nordland county had come to an end, we left my mom’s place in Brønnøysund and began our journey to western Norway.

Shortly after getting on the E6, I figured it was time to give the dog its walk. As it happened – there was a nearby top – with a mountain road leading up to it – which I hadn’t been to before.

Just south of Majavatn, we took the Fiplingdal exit. After ~8km, we turned onto a gravel road (no signpost) and followed this road (bumpy at times) for almost 4km. We found an open space with good parking opportunities. The elevation was ~570m.

Anne decided to sit this one out and so Karma and I headed up the service road. I didn’t know if the road was open or closed to the public, but I wanted the vertical meters.

After ~0,5km, I learned that this road wasn’t open to the public.

OK...
OK…

Some minutes later, I learned that this road is kept open (although not for the public) also in winter

For the most part, we followed the service road but a couple of shortcuts were too tempting…

The 2,8km to the top took 35 minutes. It was a hot day and I didn’t feel for rushing anything.

I found it a bit strange that this mountain only has a sami name (Åarjeltjahke). I am not even sure if that’s the name of this top. I’ve seen others calling the mountain “Kappfjellet“, or “Linken på Kappfjellet“, where “Linken” is the short name for the mast.

Karma was quite thirsty. I promised her water time as soon as I had taken a couple of pictures.

Just hang in there...

The views were quite OK. We had a good view towards Børgefjell:

The highest top in Børgefjell – Kvigtinden – was calling my name. We didn’t know it would take us 10 years to get there

To the west, I could see the numerous tops on the west side of E6, where very few tops were standing out.

The horseflies made our stay on top a true nightmare. I just wanted for Karma to cool off and get back down as soon as possible.

Take your time...

She took her time, that’s for sure…

I bet that was nice...

Why don't you wait until you're out of the water?

Then we headed back to Anne, easy jogging …
