Skiftningspynten (375m), Jul 31 2025
Continued from summer vacation, day 18…
Thursday: We left Brønnøysund after breakfast and sat course for Rørvik. This would be our last stop before returning home (at least we thought so). We had booked a room at the Rørvik Kysthotell for two nights. The idea was to get some easy tops before going home.
For the first time this summer, we took a ferry on FV17 (Vennesund – Holm). As we got there almost two hours before departure, our place on board was secured.
I always find these ferries stressful until we get onboard. Then it’s very nice.
We stopped at Kjeldeidet, hoping for some late breakfast. But the café hadn’t made any food yet and so we enjoyed ice-cream and a nice view towards Heilhornet.
On our way to Rørvik, we took a detour to hike the highest top on Kvingra island – Skiftningspynten (we always try to hike an island high point when there is an opportunity). Based on the map, it seemed to be a nice hike up a rocky mountain. No forest involved. I looked forward to it.
We drove Torstadvegen to Nordvika and found the path.
Anne did not have her best day today and found it strenuous from the get-go. I didn’t feel top notch either, but my legs took me closer to the mountain, step by step.
But there is always some inspiration to find, along our beautiful coastline!
The ridge route was indeed rocky, and I really enjoyed it. We were both a bit surprised that the mountain top looked really far away. I assumed that it just looked that way and that the hike wouldn’t be that long.
We had been in this region earlier. We hiked the high points on Inner-Vikna and Ytter-Vikna back in 2014. We had no recollection of any details, other than that our late and beloved Karma was with us.
Along the way, we stopped for something to eat. The mountain looked closer now!
Eventually, we reached the top and Anne could get a well-deserved break.
Anne found this ichneumon wasp (at least, that’s what we think it is) caught in a spider’s web. For several minutes it vibrated its wings furiously, sounding like a tiny plane revving its engines but unable to take off. At last it managed to break free, and we watched it fly away — leaving the spider to look for another meal.
The views were OK, but it was really dark towards the east. It was difficult to see any landmarks, but when I come to think of it – there aren’t many. We saw Leka, Vega and Heilhornet. That was pretty much it.
After a good rest, we descended the mountain – the same way we came up.
When we got back to the car, Anne went down to the sea to take a bath. I wasn’t in the mood for it.
Next, we drove to the hotel in Rørvik and checked in.

Dragstinden (157m), Jul 31 2025
Thursday: Once checked in at the Rørvik Kysthotell, Anne took a nap while I took the car to get myself one more top. The choice fell on Dragstinden, a bit northwest of Rørvik. Dragstinden is the high point on Mellom-Vikna island.
I didn’t know about any route, but on Peakbook.org, I could see a parking symbol southwest of the top. I decided to go there. I found a tractor road. The grass was so high that my car was sounding all kinds of alarms.
After 250 meters, I found a place to park and looked up the mountain with a certain degree of scepticism. This didn’t look fun at all!
But I just had to go for it. The time was 4:35pm and I wanted to be back at the hotel at 6pm, so I could get a shower before dinner at 7pm.
The initial part was pure torture, but higher up it was alright. I also joined a path that I don’t know where begins and I had a fairly easy hike up the mountain. I scrambled and climbed all walls that offered some decent handholds and had good fun.
And then I was up.
I only stayed for a couple of pictures.
On the way down, I tried to follow the path, but it continued in a direction that would – most likely – take me far away from the car. And so I just went down the way I came up.
The hotel costed about the same as the Wood hotel in Bodø. That’s the only thing that’s comparable. I don’t know why this hotel was so expensive (in comparison), but OK. It’s probably privately owned…
For dinner, we went to the 64° Nord restaurant and enjoyed a mighty nice halibut for the main course and an OK chocolate mousse for dessert. No complaints. We’ll be back tomorrow!
We felt it was a good choice to spend a couple of days in the Nærøysund municipality…
