Trip reports from nearby tops:
Monday: The new week started with the usual headache at 5am and stomach pain. The only issue showing some improvement was the knee, which was functioning good enough, but pain was radiating down my leg. I really should return to the bike but not on the one that didn’t fit me and caused the back and neck pain. Until a new bike was acquired, I would keep on hiking.
So, after work, I drove to Liadal outside Ørsta to hike Hyningane. It’s a fairly easy hike to a 1000m top.
The plan was to hike straight up the Svenskedalen valley, but I found the forest a bit too cumbersome. So, we took the path up to Leitet instead.
Now, I remembered that the route from Leitet and up was not so fun. I had clearly done it before…
Things would surely get easier when I got closer to the mountain.
I was happy to see that we were not alone on the mountain!
And eventually, we could get going with the main ascent of the mountain.
I was a bit too optimistic when I chose to hike a narrow ridge up to the foot of the upper mountain. I was OK, but it was a struggle to control Karma. We went back down and hiked up on the other side of the creek instead.
Once up, we had a fairly easy route to the top. For Karma, it helped a lot that we stayed as far to the left as we could. That way, we avoided most of the boulder.
And then we were up!
Hyningane is a nice viewpoint. The coastline on one side and a heap of mountains on the other…
I really want to explore more of the Saudehornet massif, but not with the dog…
It wasn’t on the agenda today, but I seemed to remember that the ridge towards Langheida had a steep drop. Maybe I could get down there, but surely not with a dog. But it was of course possible to bypass the ridge further down. The question was – would we find a way up to Langheida?
After studying Langheida from a distance, I was pretty sure I could get Karma up there. But that wouldn’t happen today. Any hikes now were in the category “not further than strictly necessary”.
My knee had started to ache a little and so I wanted to find a route down that was easier on the knees. So, we descended towards the river, higher up in Liadalsdalen.
When we got to the river – well, there wasn’t a lot of water in it – I regretted choosing this route. The terrain surrounding the river was really cumbersome. But, the map told me that we weren’t too far away from the path that runs in this valley.
And sure enough, a few minutes later, we were on the path, or should I say, “cow trail”. It was muddy.
