Our route up and down Røddalshorn
Our route up and down Røddalshorn

Sunday: It was a beautiful day and after breakfast we chose to ski Røddalshorn. This was probably not the best mountain for Anne, as she only had brought mountain skis to Sunnmøre. The advantage of going to Røddalshorn was that there was a very good chance that we could enjoy a track up the mountain. I chose to leave Karma at home. We would not be skiing down along the track, and then the snow would be a big problem for her.

There were indeed tracks! The parking at Leikongeidet was almost full, which was no surprise on a Sunday such as this one.

I was so much looking forward to the descent that the ascent was almost torture. I had to work with myself to be in the present and enjoy the day.

As we approached the top, Anne noticed descent tracks in the valley just south of the top. She said she would enjoy going down there more than the steep east slope. That was OK with me.

And then we were up. Karma should have been up here with us of course, but it would have been one heck of a struggle for her. At least on the way down…

It was nice beyond words to enjoy sunshine and blue sky after the polar low pressure that forced me to shovel snow 10 times per day, for days.

Finally…

So nice...

The snow was perfect. It doesn’t get better than this around these parts. It never lasts more than a day or a couple of days and hopefully – I can get some more good runs this mountain the coming week. With or without Karma. We’ll see. I don’t mind skiing down along the track. Snow is snow.

Anne had fun too, in Telemark style.

Because of our choice of route, we had to traverse the hillside to get back to the car. The terrain was a bit cumbersome for regular mountain skis.

That was big fun. I just wanted to go back up again, but now it was time to walk the dog.
