Monday: What a great way to start a new week! Due to headache, I didn’t get to sleep until 3am and around 5am, Karma had to go out to pee again. That was highly unusual and quite concerning. Not a very sustainable situation. In short, there was very little sleep.
Two things saved the day. The first was coffee. The second was the fact that it was a glorious day, and I was willing to forget a whole week of rain just for this day alone.
So, after work, I drove to Haddal to hike Garnestua. This is one of Karma’s favorite hikes and she took off like a rocket. It was brutal to remind her that this is not sanctioned behaviour.
She adjusted her pace so that she felt there was still some, but I remained in control – if against all odds – we would meet someone, coming down the forest.
When we got above the forest, I could see someone on Ringstadhornet. That turned out to be a buddy – Martin – which I meet in the local mountains every now and then…
As we chatted, we observed a very peculiar light down by lake Djupvikvatnet. It was probably just regular sun beams coming down from above, but it looked like the light came from the lake…
Ringstaddalen is for me a quite picturesque valley. I never pass here without taking a picture.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why I didn’t bring my (real) camera…
And then we were up!
I considered several options for a roundtrip hike and ended up hiking across Flåna and around lake Garnesvatnet.
Down by lake Garnesvatnet, we met Martin for the second time. He had parked on the Fjelle side and was now on his way back to the car.
This afternoon got better and better by the minute!
I wanted to just hang around up here and catch every change of light in the sky, but that also meant that we would have to descend the forest in darkness.
Eventually, I got the picture that summarized the entire hike and the afternoon…
The magic light didn’t last for very long and then it was time to get back on the trail and descend while we still had light.
Oh, what an afternoon!
