Saturday: After spending midsummer’s eve with friends, we drove back up on Filefjell and to lake Tyin – with Horntind as the target. We parked after 0,9km on the way to Eidsbugarden. There is a small parking lot there.
Then we followed the gravel road – leading to lake Øyangen. Introducing Karma to sheep in her puppy days was one of the smartest things we’ve done in “raising her”. She doesn’t want anything more to do with these animals…
Eventually, Horntind came into view.
Or – should I say – eventually – we found snow…
I made a mental note about the neighbor top – Kvannegrøberget. It wasn’t a pf100 top, but with a primary factor of 92m – close. Worth a visit. I had a feeling that at least – I – would be passing over there on the way back.
Just before the lake, we found the trail leading up to the top of Horntind.
And the views were getting more and more impressive…
On our way to Horntind, we were looking down on a fairly large (everything is relative…) herd of reindeer. While this sight is far from unusual, it’s always very welcome…
And then we aimed for the top!
Finally – on top of Horntind… We met a German couple on top. They had really nailed the weather during their visit…
The Jotunheimen view from here was quite alright!
I suggested a return via Kvannegrøberget. Anne decided to take the lower route, but we would stay together until we reached the foot of Kvannegrøberget.
There was some fun terrain along the way…
It was yet another gorgeous day in the mountains…
We parted in the pass between the mountains, and it didn’t take long before Karma and I had Kvannegrøberget “in the bag”.
We descended the west ridge and through perfect timing – joined Anne just as she was coming around the bend.
It was a great hike and I looked forward to returning to this area. That would happen much faster than I had expected…
