Our route across Skavegga
Our route across Skavegga

Sunday: After breakfast, I drove towards Sogndal. Anne would look after Karma while I went to Oslo for a couple of days (work).

I wanted to get a hike along the way, but the weather wasn’t so good. It wasn’t until we reached Utvikfjellet that I felt for leaving the car.

The natural option – given the time I had allocated, and the unstable weather – was Skavegga. I had already been to this mountain earlier this year, on skis. But OK, now I could go there on foot and hopefully get several new tracks on my GPS map.

We started out by following a path that I hadn’t hiked before (and didn’t know about). Bonus from the get-go!

On our April ski-trip here, we didn’t stop by the south top. I wasn’t sure if I had been to that top at all, and so I decided to do a proper roundtrip hike across the mountain.

It turned out that I had been there on skis back in 2011, but there is no harm in visiting a top twice

We crossed the tractor road to Støyvastølen and headed off-trail towards the foot of the mountain. Shortly after, we came across a good path leading up the mountain.

Soon, we had a good view towards the surrounding terrain…

But we weren’t on the south top just yet.

It didn’t hurt to rest the eyes on Snønipa

Finally, the south top was close…

On top, I was thinking about the nice ski-trip to Snønipa together with Anne and friends back in 2011.

Now, we had to get to the high point on this mountain – which was bigger than I had thought.

Along the way, we came across these beauties.

And the game of display distraction was on…

It felt like all my training of Karma had led to this very moment. Karma was on 3 legs, ready to “engage”, but when daddy said “no”, she knew that anywhere else than right here was a no-go zone. I was proud of her and myself when she decided to give up the hunt she was fantasizing about and continue the hike. She probably looked back 20 times the next five minutes…

We didn’t have sunshine and blue sky, but we had great surroundings!

This terrain just kept going on and on!

In April, I missed the high point because I hadn’t prepared myself. That mistake would not be repeated today!

Nice!
Nice!

Let me put it like this – if you come up here unprepared and was given only one attempt to find the true high point, you probably would not succeed.

But I found it. Just like we did back in 2011…

Then we headed over to the trig. point, which is NOT the high point! The high point is located 200m SE of the trig. point.

Now it started to rain, so we hurried down the mountain.

But as I wanted to get as many new tracks as possible, we took an off-trail route until we joined our ascent route near the trailhead.

Trip statistics: 10,3km, 630 vertical meters, 2h:26m
