Saturday: This morning, Anne surprised me by suggesting that we should ski Lægdafjellet above Fresvik. It would be a long drive and a moderately long ski-trip. Given the fact that she had a busy week at work, I was pleasantly surprised.

It was really windy when we got to Hella, and we feared that our mountain trip would be equally windy.

Fortunately, it was less windy at Skard above Fresvik, and we had a pleasant trip up the forest.

There wasn’t a whole lot of snow. Enough for ascent, but certainly not enough for the descent.

But above the forest, there was enough snow for skiing – in both directions.

Anne skied on mountain skis, while I was skiing on randonée equiment. Snow also could mean small challenges

The ascent up to the Lægdaskaret pass felt long, but it was nice getting there. Now, we could focus on the mountain.

Karma found hare tracks and was happy…

None of us had very looked very hard on the map and at this point, we both thought that we were ascending Lægdafjellet.

Along the way, we could conclude that we’ve picked the right elevation. There was no wind here, but clearly – a whole lot of wind higher up!

Not pleasant!

After a while, we realized that we were NOT on our way up Lægdafjellet. That was further ahead, and that’s when we learned about Trollgilsholten. OK, maybe we would visit that top on our way back…

Eventually, we had Lægdafjellet in full view. We would have to descend a little, cross the lake and then ascend a fairly steep mountain. With rock-hard snow in places, we would have to pick a route where we couldn’t slide off the mountain…

We found a good route up. There wasn’t a whole lot of snow, but there was just enough snow…

Oh man – the panorama view (picture on top of page) towards Aurlandsfjorden! That was surely something!

After a nice stay on top, we took the same route back down.

The lower part of the route was a bit steep, but we didn’t have any problems.

I said to Anne that I could stop by Trollgilsholten all by myself, but she wanted to come along.

From here on, we had a lot of nice skiing ahead of us.

Karma – 12,5-years old, was on fire from the get-go and until the finish line. She never ceases to impress me!

We had to wait ~30 minutes for the ferry to Hella, but with the surrounding mountains, it’s never a bore to wait for a ferry along the Sognefjord.

Man, I loved this trip! I would have to return to Sunnmøre the next day and have a not so pleasant week ahead of me, including removing Karma’s uterus, ultrasound on myself, a dentist appointment and tons of work.
