Poor little one. That was strenuous!

Our route to Molden

Monday: It’s just such a privilege to be able to ski a mountain like Molden after work. I truly enjoy my days with Anne in Sogndal. As Anne is often on her own ski-trips as part of her job in the daytime, she understandibly declines afternoon trips with me…

Today, the weather was stunning, and the choice of where-to-walk-the-dog was easy. I drove up to the Krossen trailhead and soon we were on our way to Molden.

Heading out from Krossen

By the looks of it, Karma shared my enthusiasm

Life is good, yes?

The snow was great and carried Karma’s weight. Both on and off the tracks…

A perfect day…

She looked happy. Which made me extra happy. I was already happy, but seeing her like this helps…

Passing Svarthiller

Now, back to business. We had a mountain to scale…

Heading for the top

Then I made a mistake. Rather than following the normal skiing route, I decided to take a short-cut. And up here, the snow did NOT carry her weight. She had a bit of a struggle.

Taking a short-cut. Bad decision…

And even on the upper part of the mountain, ON the tracks, she struggled.

But eventually, we reached the top and all was good!

On top of Molden

Molde is quite a viewpoint. Wherever you look, you see something interesting…

Then it was time for the descent. Like when going up, Karma struggled. And it would get worse…

I simply couldn’t resist this hill. I explained to Karma that I was sorry, but there was just no way I would NOT enjoy this snow…

Man, this was nice… Karma is a small dot up there…

Eventually, we merged with our ascent route and life would get much easier for the little one…

Almost back on track

WHAT a way to start the week!

Stedjeåsen, Mar 29 2023

Our trip across Stedjeåsen

Wednesday: The day before, we had a massive snowfall in Sogndal. Going on any kind of trip was simply out of the question.

But today, the weather had cleared up and I decided to ski Stedjeåsen. Normally, this is a bad choice as Stedjeåsen is definitely not a mountain you want to ski down. But, we would just have to make the best of it. I was not interested in going up on foot…

On our way to Stedjeåsen

Here and there, we had to leave the normal summer route because of ice.

Sorry Karma. A small detour…

You can always rely on someone else breaking the trail up here. And today was no exception…

Autostrada…

While it was nice skiing UP, I kept on pondering how to get down. Skiing down the normal route is just not any fun. Too many trees…

Getting some sunshine!

When we reached the mailbox, I made my decision. We would ski down to Skjeldestad!

At the mailbox

Crossing the meadow on Stedjeåsen was not effortless for Karma, but she seemed to enjoy every second of it…

Look at that tail….

For her, the descent was… not without effort either…

Daddy had the best time, though. The snow was wonderful!

Hooray! Powder snow!

The descent to Skjeldestad was wonderful. At least until we reached the shade.

Daddy-time!

In the shade, the snow had an icy crust and was not so much fun…

Aaargh!

But all in all, a memorable descent – given that I skied down Stedjeåsen. Again…

Thanks. That was fun!

Storehaugfjellet (1173m), Mar 30 2023

Our route up and down Storehaugfjellet

Thursday: We are now back in “privileged” territory, where it’s possible to ski a mountain like this after work.

We headed out from Sogndal Lufthamn Haukåsen – the airport. Plan A was to ski Storehaugfjellet. In case there weren’t any tracks, plan B would be to ski Lingesetfjellet.

Heading out from the airport

There were tracks up to Storehaugfjellet, and then we were on our way to the highest top on this peninsula…

To Storehaugfjellet!

Everything was honky dory fine until approx. 800m, where the snow changed. Which meant a strenuous ascent for Karma and a not so fun descent for daddy…

Towards the top of Storehaugfjellet

But we reached the top – today as well. I don’t ever think we’ve turned around on this mountain although we’ve had our share of unpleasant conditions

The top of Storehaugfjellet

After the usual rituals pictures and treats – we were ready to head back down…

Karma on Storehaugfjellet

It didn’t seem that the descent would be any easier for Karma…

Karma – struggling in the upper part of the mountain

But eventually, the snow got firmer, and Karma got her feet moving. And daddy got his skis flowing

Next up: Easter vacation! One of the best Easters ever…
