Høgkubben (450m), Feb 20 2025
Thursday: Working day in Ålesund and another meeting with the Orthopedist. The MRI showed that my knee wasn’t in worse shape after the fall last autumn. All in all, he was quite happy with what he saw but wanted me to go to another Orthopedist for a second opinion. At least, surgery does not seem to be on the table for now.
After work, I drove to Blindheim for a quick walk across Høgkubben.
It didn’t turn out to be as quick as I had planned, because in the blink of an eye, I chose to NOT hike the main trail from Blindheim Omsorgssenter, but instead – see if I could get up the steep forest.
The forest was steep and cumbersome, and eventually I ran into problems with steep cliffs. As I didn’t feel like turning around, I had to scramble a bit and perform a move that required rehearsal before I found the guts to do it.
Once above the cliffs, I stumbled onto a vague path, and I was very happy about having discovered a new path! The excitement lasted until I got back home and could see on my GPS map that I hiked along this path in 2006! Oh well…
Enough of this part of the forest. Time to get back on the upper forest path. I had a somewhat strenuous walk up a valley before I could join the forest path.
Eventually, I reached the top.
I wasn’t quite sure what the weather was transforming into. Worse or better. But so far, it was okay. It wasn’t particularly windy either.
I took some pictures before heading down the main trail – the one I was supposed to follow on my way up.
On the way down, I met one hiker – a woman. We chatted a bit. She told me about a very serious skiing accident in Washington last year. 2 months in a US hospital. That’s not cheap, but we are blessed with our insurance system in Norway.
The hike took a little longer than I had planned for, but received a message from Anne, saying she had taken Karma for a walk across Rambjøra – our nearest forest top.
Excellent. Then I didn’t have to walk Karma when I got back home…

Hovdenakken (474m), Ramnefjellet (444m), Feb 21 2025
Friday: What a night! I didn’t feel good the day before and I woke up at 3am with a splitting headache. My usual tricks didn’t work at all, and I barely got in shape to get up for work. Pain killers and coffee helped a lot on the headache, but not the shape and form.
Fast forward to the end of my working day – I really wanted to hit the bed, but eventually – the must-go-on-a-walk need kicked in. I asked Anne to join me to an easy hike up to Hovdenakken. She agreed…
It was really windy. To the extent where the hike isn’t all that enjoyable anymore.
But it wasn’t a storm. We would surely reach the top.
It wasn’t that bad on top. The wind came and went. When we arrived, it was sort of quiet.
I was able to take some pictures that didn’t turn out to be a big blur.
We decided to return via Ramnefjellet.
Ramnefjellet was much windier!
After the hike, it was nice to lie down for half an hour, to get in shape for Friday night dinner.

Hornseten (190m), Feb 23 2025
Sunday: Anne wanted a slow and easy hike today. I scouted the map for candidate routes and ended up on the Flusund – Nørdrevåg route, which I hadn’t done before. The plan was for Anne to continue to a café in Fosnavåg while Karma and I returned to Flusund via Hornseten.
Our first discovery along the route was a Kusymre (Primula vulgaris). This flower isn’t really supposed to come out until April/May and now it was here. Poor little thing. Winter has probably not arrived yet.
I was curious about how easy or difficult this route was. I had texted a friend about it, and he replied that he had done this route with his dog. That was good news. So far, the route was easy enough.
I was also interested to see if there was any doable routes up to Hornseten. There weren’t.
Karma enjoyed herself big-time. Very exciting terrain!
There wasn’t so much to discover. We found a skeleton of a Breiflabb (Monkfish) and a nice Kråkebolle (Sea Urchin). But it was still nice to be here though.
After a while it seemed that we had really cumbersome terrain ahead, but it sorted itself out in a nice way.
I think the tide will determine how easy or cumbersome the last part is.
Eventually, we arrived at Nørdrevåg. The hardest part of the route was to get up to the first house.
After a couple of minutes, we split up. Anne was heading for Fosnavåg and Karma and I sat course for Hornseten.
Karma was reluctant to leave mommy behind, but eventually, she got going…
Karma gave everything in the steep forest and made it without any support from daddy.
When we reached the top, we could see the shore that we had hike earlier.
The hike down to Flusund was uneventful, and soon we were in Fosnavåg to pick up Anne.

Røddalshorn (563m), Feb 23 2025
Sunday: 260 vertical meters across Hornseten wasn’t enough on a Sunday, so after dropping Anne off at my house, I took Karma and drove up to Leikongsætra to hike Røddalshorn.
Karma took the lead but kept looking back at me – with a “really?” look. “Yes, really” I replied, and she continued.
When we reached the summit ridge, it was quite windy. Almost unpleasant. But the gusts weren’t constant and as such – tolerable.
It was nice to reach the top, which meant that we could descend a route that would give us shelter from the wind.
I didn’t spend much time taking pictures. It was hard to keep the camera steady anyway.
I was happy enough with the hiking week. 4300 vertical meters in total, 614 in average per day. 500 is the bar. 600 is a big bonus.
