Our route across Rjåhornet
Our route across Rjåhornet

Monday: In my trip report yesterday (Sunday), I wrote: “Maybe we will wake up to snow in the morning. Or maybe we won’t.

Well, we didn’t. But it didn’t take long before it started snowing. Lightly though. After work, I decided to hike up to Rjåhornet. I had no idea if we would run into a snow shower or stay in the clear. It wasn’t easy to say from a distance…

What is the status on Rjåhornet?

There was only a few cm of fresh snow. Nothing to mention. The problem was however that it covered the blank ice. And there was a lot of blank ice everywhere now.

Karma was overjoyed about being on the trail again. It just seems I’m not able to give her all the exercise she wants. Last week, we did 4545 vertical meters and 66km of hiking. I had 5 full working days plus work on Saturday and Sunday. When that’s not enough, I just give up.

Yes, I'm coming!!

Finally, I got the coastline in view. There was a lot going on out there. But would it stay out there or come our way?

Fascinating...

When we got to the foot of the mountain, I was tired of near accidents and put the ice cleats on.

The ascent went swift. I was mainly focusing on what was going at sea. It was a stunning sight!

And suddenly we were up! No snow showers here. So far so good!

Karma got treats and was occupied while I did a round of pictures.

The snow shower(s) seemed to stay on the coastline. Someone was probably getting a good dump!

Since the weather was still holding up, I decided that we should go for a round-trip hike across Hillehornet and Nakken. I had to be very careful about picking the route. Just one field with ice under the snow, and I could be in trouble. I just had to put all my focus on the terrain.

Fortunately, I know this terrain like the back of my hand. I know where it’s typically wet. And where it’s typically wet, there would be ice today.

The only cumbersome part was that we got tangled up in some dense forest, trying to get to the foot of Hillehornet.

Soon heading into problems. Karma left a cool track!

We got across Hillehornet and sat course for Nakken. There had been no near-accidents, primarily because we had gone off-trail and avoided treacherous paths.

But from Nakken, I had to be careful. The last time I was here, I had a bad fall, and my knee is still suffering from that hike. No accidents this time, though.

A good start to the week!
