Rambjøra (132m), Dec 4 2023
Monday: After two wonderful ski-trips this weekend, Anne and I chose to hike Rambjøra this afternoon. We both felt a little tired and were happy to settle for an easy hike.
This was her last full day on Sunnmøre this year. We would soon spend almost 3 weeks together, during our Christmas break.
We were only 12 days away from our Tenerife trip. While I found the rest of December to be quite stressful, I also looked forward to some days in the sunshine.
We’ve had good weather most of the winter so far, but this region got its share of bad weather later that month. Fortunately, I wasn’t there then…
At least I had gotten accustomed to after-dark hikes. That’s always a transition every year and it takes me a week or two to enjoy it.
Trip statistics: 4,4km, 150 vertical meters, 1h:20m
Huldrehornet (271m), Dec 5 2023
Tuesday: The Vet called me today and told me that they had discarded Cushing Syndrome. I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about it. Cushing is manageable through medication, and now it was back to the drawing board. But on the upside, Cushing most likely means a tumor and so it could actually be that she was OK. We agreed to proceed with ultrasound.
In the afternoon, I felt like going to Huldrehornet – one of my local tops that I’ve visited numerous times.
I really like this top, and especially the forest part.
It was a yet another beautiful afternoon…
I’ve been to this top ~550 times since 2008 and I got a 4-year head start on Karma, who came into our lives in 2012…
It was just the perfect time for taking pictures. Not too dark and not too bright either.
I also got a good picture of my neighborhood…
We continued across Huldrehornet and sat course for Djupvika.
Then we hiked up to Djupvikhaugen – which had a great Christmas decoration…
…and a nice view home…
On the way home, we crossed lake Djupvikvatnet. It’s not very often it’s safe to cross this lake.
Trip statistics: 4,9km, 375 vertical meters, 1h:30m
Øyrahornet (417m), Skåla (184m), Dec 6 2023
Wednesday: There is always something going on – on the dog front. Not only was I paying thousands for medical examinations and expensive drugs, but now there was false pregnancy. She normally stays up in the 2nd floor during my working day, but for the past days she’s been running down and nursing a squeaky duck and a pig.
After work, she took a pause from all that and came along for a walk. Today, we went to Øyrahornet.
The weather was still good. It had been a really good winter so far, in terms of the weather…
The goal was to reach the top before it got too dark and I looked forward to taking a picture. I was almost happy with it…
My tentative plan about moving on towards Slettheia got cancelled. There wasn’t a lot of snow, but the wind-packed snow was a bit cumbersome.
So, we decided to descend the way we came and then moved over to Skåla.
After crossing Skåla, we had a few kilometers along the main road. A nice hike!
Trip statistics: 7,2km, 580 vertical meters, 2h:14m
Høgskjerva (317m), Dec 7 2023
Thursday: After work, I drove to Ulsteinvik to hike from Bugarden, without any particular plan. We ended up with following the path towards Høgskjerva.
There wasn’t a lot of snow, and hiking was easy.
I spent a little time researching on how to do after-dark pictures. I’ve still got a lot to learn, but the pictures aren’t total disasters anymore…
Even the Iphone isn’t terrible if you just do the panorama slow enough…
Once we reached Høgskjerva, it was clear that this hike had to be significantly longer…
We joined the mountain service road from Varleitet and it was just gorgeous being out tonight!
Then we aimed for Skeidshornet…
We followed the path towards Nibben before joining the forest trail from Skeide.
Trip statistics: 7km, 450 vertical meters, 1h:55m

Høgåsen (240m), Dec 10 2023
Sunday: I didn’t feel very adventurous today and settled for a hike across the tops on Dimnøya island, starting with the high point – Høgåsen.
On top, I went a bit nuts with the camera. First, the usual dog-on-top picture.
Then, a few panorama pictures by the Iphone.
And finally, a series of pictures from the Canon that I stitched using Autostitch.
THEN we moved on – in the direction of Svarane.
There was not a lot of snow here. Hiking was easy. Especially since I had spikes under my shoes. The trails were still quite icy.
After passing Svarane, we sat course for Stemnehornet.
After Stemnehornet, we sat course for Uglesætra.
Uglesætra is quite something else. You are being warned well before getting there…
All the details…
Very cool…
Maybe one time I’ll dedicate a separate blog post on Uglesætra…
Then we headed back to the car and another good hiking week had come to an end. We even met our friend Geir – out walking his dog.
Trip statistics 8,1km, 535 vertical meters, 2h:04m
