Stedjeåsen (624m), Nov 13 2023
Monday: It was yet another beautiful day in Sogndal and decided to spend my lunchbreak on walking Karma down by the fjord.
After work, I decided to hike Stedjeåsen and I was in off-trail mode. I was also very interested in getting some new tracks on my Stedjeåsen GPS map…
We soon found our off-trail terrain but unfortunately – I recognized this place, so no new tracks here.
But after some searching, I found new terrain.
Running into a forest path was inevitable and once on it, I decided to follow it upwards.
A bit later, we passed one of the few viewpoints this forest has to offer. I had a nice towards Hesteggi that we hiked the day before.
Eventually, we reached the meadow on top. The high point is at the far end of the meadow and it’s only tempting to hike up there when the ground is frozen. Otherwise, it’s just too wet.
Afterwards, we descended towards “Skardet” – the pass between Stedjeåsen and Skardsbøfjellet.
Then we followed the tractor road down to Skjeldestad, as it was turning dark…
Trip statistics: 7,4km, 675 vertical meters, 1h:56m
Skjeggen (738m), Nov 14 2023
Tuesday: Our late spring hike to Skjeggen was quite strenuous due to rotten snow. Today, I would treat myself with a much easier hike to this top that I can see from Anne’s place.
I drove to Røvhaugane and then we headed up the usual route towards Åberge.
As we arrived Åberge, we had a great view towards Hesteggi. It’s a mountain I’ll explore for many years to come.
But today, Skjeggen was the focus…
We followed the path towards Bjellastølen but went off-trail before getting to Bjellastølen. We also ended up in slightly steep terrain.
Eventually, we joined the path from Bjellastølen.
A bit later we reached the viewpoint. I love that they have cut the forest here.
I’m a sucker for round trip hikes and so we continued towards Hyllsete.
From Hyllsete, we had a long tractor road ahead of us.
It was already dark when we passed Åberge. It was a very nice hike!
Trip statistics: 8,5km, 685 vertical meters, 1h:51m
Englandshovden (774m), Nov 15 2023
Wednesday: After work, I wanted to hike Englandshovden from England. No, not the country, but the farm way above Ølnes and Barsnesfjorden.
But the road above Ølnes was quite icy and halfway up I decided to just park the car. I could see on the map that there is a path going from where I had parked, but it didn’t seem to connect with anything. Even if I was really short on daylight, I decided to take my chances.
We followed a path going upwards and it almost connected with the road to Ølnesstølen. We just had 50m off-trail.
As I was in a hurry, trying to get as high as possible in daylight, I cut through the forest before Ølnesstølen and headed up to Surnali.
From Surnali, the terrain was just annoying.
But we gradually made our way up the forest and eventually, we were on top of Englandshovden.
Now, we had to find a way to Imesdal…
After running into some steep terrain, we finally found a doable route and came to Imesdal with still some daylight left.
We followed the tractor road down to England and then the Englandsvegen road back to the car. I just couldn’t believe that I pulled off this hike without using the headlamp…
Trip statistics: 8km, 620 vertical meters, 1h:40m
Flotshaugen (229m), Nov 16 2023
Thursday: After work, I felt I was 2 hours away from the big flu. I just wanted to hit the bed but found some motivation to take the dog for a walk to Flotshaugen above Barsnes.
Again – there was Hesteggi – right in front of us, but this time we would settle for the modest hill at the Hesteggi foothills…
We followed the path to the top and Karma got her treats…
I was in the mood for some off-trail and found a route that I hadn’t done before – on the northeast side.
Eventually, we joined the tractor road – leading us down to Barnesfjorden and we followed the road back to the car. It was quite dark by now.
Trip statistics: 4,3km, 280 vertical meters, 1h:04m
Stedjeåsen (624m), Nov 17 2023
Friday: It was Anne’s birthday and we had invited guests for dinner in the evening. But there was a small window for walking Karma between work and dinner… I decided to do a quick hike across Stedjeåsen.
I was able to find some new off-trail terrain and fill some gaps in my GPS map, but once on tops – it was straight back down along the normal route.
The dinner was very nice – with good friends.
Trip statistics 5,4km, 580 vertical meters, 1h:12m
