Jeskadalen (547m~), Mar 1 2021

Steep forest adventures…

My last day in Sogndal this time and I decided to try out a completely new route, which I’ve been good at lately. I started out at Tjørnes and instead of going up the Hesteggi path, I turned east and hiked almost to Valeberg before I got on the tractor road to Barnesfjellet. By the time I was level with Jeskadalen, I left the road, visited the signpost and headed down the Hesteggi path.

Rjåhornet (600m), Mar 3 2021

Man, it was GOOD to be back!

After a long and intense working day, I finally found some private time, took the dog and hiked up to Rjåhornet from Djupvika. It had rained all day and light snow was in the air. A very nice hike!!

Rambjøra (132m), Mar 4 2021

Trail maintenance day

Pleasure aside, today I was back on the Rambjøra path – clearing bush.

Leinebjørnen (271m), Mar 5 2021

Our route across Leinebjørnen

This was not a good day. I had a clot-feeling in my right leg. I tried not to worry about it. I was already on blood-thinning medications after they found 4 clots in my leg 1 month earlier. So, I should be good, right? Moreover, the weather was really depressing. The only upside was that I found a new route down from Leinebjørnen!

Karma! Stop yawning!

Garnestua (653m), Mar 6 2021

This hike came with a cost!

I’ve said it over and over again – in this part of the country, elevation matters! The weather was not bad at all when we started hiking from Ytre Haddal. But when we got onto the summit ridge, the weather was really awful.

First attempt to continue, failed. The second attempt also failed. Then we waited for an opportunity to continue without risking the dog to be whipped to pieces. Fortunately, the window eventually came along and we could ge to the top and back to the forest before the next snow & hail shower came…

Blåtind (697m), Mar 7 2021

On top of the glaciated Blåtind

Early march and the load at work was already crazy. And it remained crazy throughout the year. After a (another) really stressful working week, I was working throughout the weekend and on this Sunday, I had a 2 hour window before having to be back at work. I decided to visit the highest point on Hareidlandet in the meantime.

I was worried that we would get really awful weather on Blåtind, but it was OK. The mountain was glaciated and foggy, but the wind was not too bad. It was a good hike.

It felt a bit odd to get back to work, picking up where I left off – knowing I had hiked a 700m mountain in the meantime…
